47: Is It Real or Is It Fake? - Why We Are Tricked By Our Brains But It May Not Matter At All

Reality is like a picture, and what we know and can grasp at any point in time are just pixels of the reality. Where there are more pixels which are fine grain, it means that the situation is more certain or you have access to more information. The converse is true if you have less pixels, and we have to fill in the blanks. Studies have shown that when people are faced with situations which have less pixels, they use shortcuts to make judgements and decisions. In this episode, Dr Yong shares her reflection on why people fall prey to heuristics; when it matters and when people shouldn't sweat the small stuff.
